Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't pelvic physiotherapy just doing kegels?

Kegels are not always recommended as a form of treatment for pelvic physiotherapy. Sometimes they can do more harm than good. If they are recommended, often they are done incorrectly. That’s where I can help assess and ensure they are done correctly so that your time is not wasted.

What can I expect during my first visit with you?

After booking an appointment with me, I will email you some forms that I kindly would ask you to fill out ahead of our visit. I will also include in that email any other details that you need to know in preparation for our appointment. The first visit usually lasts 60-75 minutes, depending on what you have booked ahead of time with me. We will together review and discuss all of the forms that you filled out so that I can get a really clear picture of your health history, your concerns and your goals. We will then move on to the external physical assessment which could include assessing your general posture, strength, flexibility, breathing, and areas of pain. An internal pelvic assessment can be done based on your personal preference and comfort. After the assessment, we will cover any additional questions or concerns that you may have. We may also have some time to explore a couple strategies to implement in your treatment until we complete our next follow up appointment together.

Do I have to have an internal exam done?

You are not required to have an internal exam to receive pelvic health physiotherapy. However, pelvic internal exams can be helpful for me to gain the clearest understanding of your health and to assess proper exercise technique. Your comfort remains my highest priority, and internal exams will always be optional.

Should I cancel my appointment if I am on my period?

There is no need to cancel your appointment. If you are comfortable, we can continue with the internal portion of the appointment. We can also focus on external work only if that is your preference. I will guide the appointment based on how you feel.

Can I still see you if I have never had a baby?

Absolutely! Not every pelvic health condition is due to childbirth or pregnancy.

I have had my problem for many years. Is it too late to see you?

It is never too late to see a pelvic health physiotherapist. I work with women of all ages and would be happy to help you.

Do I need a doctor's note or referral to see you?

You do not need a doctor’s referral to see me. However, some insurance providers require a referral to cover expenses. Please check with your provider to see what their requirements are.

How can I pay for my visit?

I accept credit card, e-transfer or cash payments. At this time, I do not bill directly to insurance companies, but I will be happy to provide you with an official receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider.
